The Hyper-X microphones are garbage and you should avoid these headsets at all costs. I would rather shout my communications out the window, to a scribe waiting outside, who is writing them on slips of paper and attaching them to carrier pidgeons, than attempt to communicate with my friends using the microphone on a Hyper-X headset.

Yeah, I got the Pro X .I love it but I have an issue that apparently noone else has. I Literally have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling Ghub....Why? because I keep losing my surround sound. If I play in Stereo I can not hear anything behind me at all, not a single sound so if I am playing Rising Storm 2 Vietnam if I face away from the fighting its quiet as can be.... Logitech support could not help me, in fact they said all they can do is replace the headset but that would take a few weeks to do.....So I ordered a new one from amazon just a little bit ago just to see and it does the exact same thing. So something is conflicting with it somehow even though I literally went through everything I could think of. Sigh, Its a great headset but idk what else to go to, I am looking for a good one for FPS games because I rely on the sounds. I am just at a loss.

Bottom line: Proprietary peripheral programs can do a lot of awesome things, allowing engineers to create hardware-software solutions with no regard for existing markets, technology or compatibility. You start from nothing - the sky is the limit. The problem is when you have 20 different programs that you NEED for that one little function they offer, but they all do a whole bunch of other things you neither want nor will probably ever use. Cloud related BS being the most obnoxious; If you've ever worked at a software company, you know its all they ever talk about there, but I digress... I'm sorry, but when I saw the razer headphones are number 1, I had to put my foot down. Ignoring those, I find this to be a pretty nice list of products, although chances are you probably didn't learn anything watching this video (these are all kinda the "cream-of-the-crop" mainstream products). Firstly, I would like to point out a few things to all of you who are in the market for a new pair of headphones: All microphones you get on headsets are mediocre at best and usually not much worse. If you have an example of one that isn't, please prove me wrong, I'll be happy to eat my words, but that has been mine and all my friends experiences. If you really need a good microphone, buy a standalone microphone. Most of them are aimed at the professional market so they're generally more expensive than they have any right to be, but that's just how it is, unfortunately. While we're on the subject of microphones, if you happen to need a new soundcard, get an external one. If you have issues with coil whine polluting your "outgoing" audio, get an external soundcard. I have this problem and I generally avoid voice chat using continuous transmission, because my partner(s) will be listening to the sound of my graphics card whining constantly. Or at least, that used to be the case, until I went and bought an external soundcard. As for audio quality, I could talk for days, but contrary to my previous point, I would advice against buying USB headphones. They have their own dedicated soundcard, which means they can have a plethora of issues as they age, if the company you bought them from stops supporting them, or goes out of business, or whatever the case may be. It also means you can't use your fancy soundcard if you have one (most mainstream motherboard manufacturers provide pretty decent built-in soundcards. So my advice is to always buy headphones with a 3.5mm cord, detachable if possible, so you can replace IT, instead of your headphones, since IT, is what usually breaks (and costs like 5 dollars to replace). Oh and only buy stereo headphones. Yes, that's right. *STEREO* . You see, all this talk about surround sound you've been hearing about for the last, oh, idk, 15, 20 years? Bollocks. All of it. Well, more or less; you don't need physical, or "true 5.1/7.1" surround sound in your headphones. Software can do that just fine on a good pair of stereo headphones. I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say that in both cases the same method is used for simulating positional audio. The amount of physical drivers and their position is completely irrelevant. In fact, in regards to general sound quality (and by extension surround audio quality), It is always better to have one big driver, as opposed to a bunch of smaller ones, all competing for your ears attention. This whole surround sound deal most likely stems from the home cinema enthusiast market, where having several speakers spread across the room is the only way to get an authentic surround sound experience. Well, until recently, that is. The same technology that is used for virtual surround sound in headphones can accomplish the desired effect with a sound-bar. Noise cancellation headphones have also taken a page out of the virtual surround sound book. So yeah, its as simple as it gets: physical surround sound in headphones = bad. Now with all that in mind, I can recommend to you one pair of headphones which satisfies these requirements; the hyperx "cloud alpha" . Now I'm sure you can find even better headphones for a lower price if you're crafty, or maybe you don't mind buying used products and you can find them for a fraction of the 80$ that I paid for mine right around release. Not a lot of criticism about these from me. The earpads are on the smaller side for over-ear headphones and the leatherette padding got worn down after about a year of daily use. Other than that, just subjective stuff, like the bass being a bit weak if you're used to bass-heavy earphones. However, the bass "issue" can be redeemed if you so wish by dialing in your desired EQ settings on your soundcard. Now, if you've never used razer products, you probably don't know this, but they force you to use their software in order to get advanced functionality for your products, like macro keys or RGB stuff (or that surround sound stuff that doesn't even work right for some games). Problem is their software does way more than that. Back in the day, you only had the functionality that you bought, that is to say, what was marketed and that was fine. Now however, you have all this cloud nonsense with profiles and statistics and a million other things you don't need and you have to be connected and logged in to the internet in order to use the software at all. So not only is the program doing a bunch of stuff in the background and taking up system resources, but its famously unreliable and it plain doesn't work if you don't have an internet connection. Combine this with all the other "small" programs you have running in the background, like steam, nvidia/amd, overclocking monitoring tools and whatever number of other bs you're running in the background end up taking up more resources than you might think. I ended up having to turn off nvidia gforce, steam, msi afterburner, razer cortex and a whole bunch of other crap, just to run my modded fallout 4 without crashing whenever I enter Boston because I was running out of ram. Same thing with kerbal space program... on a machine that has 16GB of ram installed... Believe me, I know how it sounds, but I have tested this quite extensively and although probably only a Microsoft programmer could tell you why, I am confident beyond reasonable doubt that my assessment holds merit. As if that wasn't enough, or if that doesn't affect you in any meaningful way, there seems to be issues with certain versions of windows 10 and "outdated" drivers, where high-end computers are getting considerable CPU performance deficits (search windows 10 driver high cpu usage). So it seems simply looking at the task manager and checking the cpu/ram/disk usage is far from the whole story. If you doubt this, I implore you to open up your task manager, leave it running in the background and go play a game that you're very familiar with. One whose performance is innately CPU bound. Pick one that you're just about able to run with your machine on those particular settings and watch your fps. Whenever you dip significantly for no discernable reason, tab out to your task manager and look at the performance history for different programs. Do this a couple times and you will find some windows services taking 10, 20, 30, 50, 70 % of your CPU usage for several seconds. Most of this is just windows doing its own thing, checking for updates, verifying system integrity, *don your tinfoil hat* - collecting and marketing your personal information before selling it, and confirming driver signature verification (the latter of which likely has something to do with the aforementioned high-CPU usage problem with "outdated" drivers.

JT_STUD

I just bought them and i hate them.... The fake 7.1 surround sound is absolute trash. Another issue is that my ears hit the drivers being the ear cups are to thin and not thick. And after maybe a hour my ears hurt so bad. Battery life is okay with the led off. With them on it drains so quick. If you play with them charging / plugged in the angle of the usb-c cable pokes your shoulder / back and is so annoying. I've had to bend the cable as much as i could to get it some what acceptable but gave up and wrapped it through the frame on the left side and have the cable in front of me on my lap. Compared to my old Razer kraken v2 which died "due to cable bending i assume and this is why i went wireless" but it sounded much better with deeper bass and way better fake 7.1 ss. I was upset they died early and the fake leather flaked off and it honestly only lasted a little over 2 years and I was butt hurt about that and went corsair but i'm going back to razer. I ordered the Blackshark pro and waiting for those to show up. From the reviews it seems like a very solid comfortable wireless headset and cheaper than the virtuoso. I'm going to return my virtuoso no matter if the blacksharks don't meet my expectations or not. The comfort level on the virtuoso are the worst i've ever felt from a gaming headset.. I've never had my ears hurt at all with my old kraken v2. They were so comfortable and light...
